The Person You're Trying to Become is Watching

We spend so much time chasing our future self that we rarely notice they're quietly judging our shortcuts.

The Person You're Trying to Become is Watching

Most of us have a picture of our future self.

Healthier.

Kinder.

Calmer.

More successful.

Somehow always well-rested.

It's a lovely person.

The only problem is...

We keep expecting them to do all the difficult work.

"Future me will start exercising."

"Future me will save money."

"Future me will finally get organised."

Poor future you.

They've inherited quite an impressive backlog.

Here's the interesting part.

The person you're trying to become isn't waiting somewhere ahead.

They're quietly taking shape in everything you repeatedly do today.

Identity isn't built on extraordinary moments.

It's built on ordinary repetitions.

One decision.

One conversation.

One promise kept.

One excuse retired.

Tomorrow's identity is simply today's habits with better marketing.

So perhaps stop asking,

"Who do I want to become?"

And start asking,

"Would the person I'm trying to become make this next choice?"

That's where identity quietly changes.

Not someday.

The next time.
