Attention is the First Act of Care
Most people think attention is a tool for getting more done.
It isn't.
Attention is the first act of care.
Whatever we truly care about naturally receives our attention.
Whatever consistently receives our attention quietly begins to shape us.
A neglected friendship rarely disappears because of one argument.
It fades through countless moments of unnoticed absence.
A healthy body is not built by one extraordinary workout.
It is built by repeatedly paying attention.
The same is true of our thoughts.
What we repeatedly notice becomes familiar.
What becomes familiar slowly becomes normal.
And what becomes normal eventually becomes who we believe we are.
Attention is therefore much more than concentration.
It is a declaration of value.
The question is not whether we are paying attention.
We always are.
The real question is:
What is receiving it?
