Your Attention Has a Diet
Most of us have become careful about what we eat.
We read labels.
Count calories.
Avoid too much sugar.
Drink more water.
But when it comes to our attention, we consume almost anything.
A headline that provokes outrage.
A notification that interrupts thought.
An argument that was never ours.
An endless stream of opinions we never asked for.
Our minds digest all of it.
Not instantly.
Gradually.
Just as poor nutrition doesn't make us unhealthy overnight, poor attention rarely changes us in a single day.
It happens quietly.
One distraction.
One scroll.
One unnecessary interruption at a time.
If food builds the body, attention builds the mind.
Perhaps it's time we became just as selective about what enters our awareness as we are about what enters our plate.
Because every piece of information we repeatedly consume eventually becomes part of how we think.
And how we think quietly becomes how we live.
